ISHINOMAKI, Miyagi Pref. — The Dalai Lama on Saturday visited an area devastated by the March earthquake and tsunami and took part in a Buddhist memorial service for the victims.

The 76-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader offered words of encouragement to survivors during the service at Saiko Temple in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.
With about 1,000 people attending, the Dalai Lama said that as a human being he shares the pain of survivors who lost their loved ones, and that he hopes people will be able to overcome their sorrow and rebuild their lives.
In Ishinomaki, about 3,800 people were killed or went missing in the disaster, the largest number of victims in a single municipality.
The Dalai Lama also plans to visit other hard-hit areas, including Sendai and Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture.
He visited Tokyo in April and held a special Buddhist service for victims of the March 11 disaster, but was unable to visit the devastated area.
Before his visit to Ishinomaki, the Dalai Lama, who arrived in Japan on Oct. 29, made a speech in the city of Osaka and visited Wakayama Prefecture's Koyasan University, which is affiliated with Koyasan Kongobuji Temple. The university invited the Dalai Lama to celebrate its 125th anniversary.

The group headed by the former Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe greeted His Holiness the Dalai Lama and expressed gratitude for visiting the earthquake, tsunami and radiation affected regions, and for his encouraging and condolence message to the grief stricken people in the region. The lawmakers also expressed their support for His Holiness middle path approach to solve the Tibet issue and expressed their concern about the deteriorating situation in Tibet.

西藏精神領袖達賴喇嘛，2011年6月14日來到澳洲首都坎培拉拜訪國會，不少議員親切、熱情的招呼他，不過澳洲總理吉拉德不願接見達賴，但表示這選擇與中國無關，達賴也表示，吉拉德的做法合情合理，大家都能理解。
人才踏出汽車，招牌笑聲立即跟著傳出，西藏精神領袖達賴喇嘛14日開心的與前來迎接他的澳洲國會議員打招呼，人群擁簇擁之下，達賴喇嘛進到國會大廈。
對於澳洲總理吉拉德拒不現身，達賴喇嘛直說，本來就不需要，講了半天，原來達賴喇嘛不清楚總理一職已改由女人當家，還引起一陣哄堂，身為無神論者的吉拉德，對於自己決定不見達賴喇嘛，也有一番說法。
全球宗教領袖中，達賴喇嘛算得上是相當受歡迎的人物，但對各國領袖而言，見不見達賴喇嘛卻是個傷透腦筋的問題。
澳洲上一個曾與達賴喇嘛碰面的總理是霍華德，澳洲的綠黨是執政黨勞工黨的重要支持力量，綠黨向來對中國鎮壓西藏，批評不遺餘力，綠黨黨魁布朗14日不但見了達賴喇嘛，還頻頻遊說吉拉德比照辦理，不過，不僅是吉拉德沒理會這項建議，連外交部長陸克文都避不見面。

(Phayul/OHHDL/Tenzin Choejor)ISHINOMAKI, November 5: 500 metres into the coastline of the Pacific, the port city of Ishinomaki in northern Japan is a picture of desolation.
Waves, some as high as 17 metres struck the once important shipping city, bringing in debris and destroying everything on its path.
What remains now, facing the ocean, are piles of mangled cars, ruined schools buildings, and flowers in front of twisted pillars that once supported homes.
On that fateful day of March 11, when an earthquake measuring 9 on the richter scale sent waves as far as 12 kms inland, over 4000 people died in Ishinomaki alone.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, traveling for over an hour by road from Sendai arrived in Ishinomaki earlier today to attend a memorial service at the Sai Kou Ji temple.
Inside the main prayer hall filled with bereaved family members and friends praying for their lost ones, photos of young boys and girls placed on the side of the altar reminded of humankind’s helplessness in front of nature’s fury.
A young mother silently wept with a photo of her son on her lap as the Dalai Lama lead prayers in the hall that was left inundated in over a metre of seawater following the tsunami.
Outside the temple, on flattened grounds, hundreds of more people sat in the cold November weather in front of giant screens, listening to the Dalai Lama.
“I have come here today, to share your pain and suffering,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said.
“My brothers and sisters, you are not alone in this time of great tragedy,” remarked the Dalai Lama while confessing that he was “moved to tears,” witnessing the destruction and the suffering on the faces of the victims.
“But the tragedy has already happened,” His Holiness remarked. “Now is the time to think broadly, to utilise our human intelligence, self confidence, and warm-heartedness to transform this tragedy into enthusiasm”.
Sharing from his own past difficult experiences of having to escape into exile on the night of March 17, 1959 and the consequent shelling of his residence in which thousands of Tibetans, including some of his close friends were killed, the Dalai Lama noted that he used his “intelligence, belief in truth and self confidence to transform tragedy into strength.”
“Now, for almost 52 years, I have always kept my determination and enthusiasm”.

“Take care of your children. Give them the opportunity to study and to grow up as another happy generation”.
Thanking the Dalai Lama for providing “compassion and inspiration” at a time of great emotional distress, the Mayor of Ishinomaki invited the Tibetan leader to revisit his town.
“Your Holiness, you have inspired and encouraged us with you words and actions. Please visit us again once we have rebuilt our town”.

日本311強震重災區，宮城縣的南三陸町和石卷市的交界處有一個當地人才知道的神割崎，這裡的海面上矗立著兩塊巨大岩石，只有在每年的2月和10月才有機會從兩塊巨石的縫隙中看見日出美景，當地有業餘攝影師在這裡拍攝下一張張相片，希望帶給災民重新站起來的力量。
在海浪的陣陣拍打聲中，朝著眼前這兩塊巨大岩石的縫隙向天邊瞭望，火紅色的朝陽正慢慢升起，這是日本宮城縣南三陸町神割崎季節限定的美景，更是當地人無比自豪的秘境絕景。
其實這裡流傳著一個美麗傳說，據說原本神割崎海面上的岩石是一整塊，但因為天神不忍兩邊的村民為了邊界問題不斷起紛爭，於是有一天將岩石一分為二，兩塊巨石間這兩公尺寬的裂縫，只有在每年2月和10月份才能從這裡看到日出美景，而在30年前發現這特別景致的人是他，60歲的業餘攝影師佐藤久。
佐藤久拍攝下的影像，很快就引起日本全國攝影同好的注意，每年這珍貴的時刻，總會有數以百計的攝影師聚集在此，如同朝聖般要親眼目睹這難得奇景。
日本311強震當天，佐藤久人在家中，聽聞海嘯警報，他迅速往山上跑，逃過一劫，但他的家被海嘯吞噬，最愛的單眼相機也殘破不堪，眼見家園被毀，佐藤久一度也失去了繼續拍照的動力。
但其實大難過後，影像往往最能觸動人心，8月下旬這場攝影展，完全顛覆佐藤久的想法`,攝影展是由一名出身宮城縣女川町的女攝影師舉行，這名女攝影師的雙親在海嘯中喪命，她用相片記錄下故鄉倖存的人們幸福的笑容。
佐藤久被這些相片震撼了，他決定要再繼續拍照，就在這時，說也奇怪，他竟然在已經準備要被解體的自己家裡，找到這張照片，彷彿是給他的暗號，10月29日清晨，他驅車直奔神割崎，清晨5點，天還沒亮，但已經有攝影同好等在這裡。一句玩笑話，卻是恍如隔世的感慨。調整心情準備好相機，因為日出美景不過短短幾分鐘，彈指即逝。
2011年秋天，神割崎的日出美景依舊準時登場，燦爛陽光但願能成為災民們的力量，牽引災區重回美好時光。(民視新聞崔立潔綜合報導)
